Europe Needs A Federal Reserve
AS the world economy teeters again, pressure is mounting on central banks to reopen their spigots, make it even cheaper for companies and households to borrow money, and prop up commercial banks to prevent another financial crisis. On Wednesday, the Federal ...
POLITICAL PRIVATE PRACTICE
LET'S talk privatisation. I know this is not a thrilling topic. I recently wrote a book in which I tried to juice up the subject by suggesting that readers might want to imagine a privatizer as a cross between a pirate and a sanitizer - a ...

70 students attend QP induction ceremony

CATHERINE W GICHUKI

DOHA ABOUT 70 Qatari students from different universities in Qatar and abroad attended the Qatar Petroleum’s (QP) induction ceremony on Thursday for its summer internship programme, scheduled to begin on Sunday.

All the participating students are under QP scholarships and they are pursuing various courses in their respective universities. The internship programme will end on July 19.

The occasion was attended by senior officials from the corporate training department and the human resources department as well as various QP directorates where the students will be pursuing their internships.

Addressing the students, QP’s Corporate Training Manager Ali Nasser Telfat appreciated the students for their commitment and dedication in pursuing their university studies.

“The main aim of QP’s 2012 Summer Internship Programme is to contribute in developing a well-trained and qualified national workforce, who will eventually join the country’s energy and industry sector,” Telfat said.

He added that the internship programme is in line with the objectives of the industry’s Strategic Qatarization Plan under the leadership and guidance of Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP HE Dr Mohammad bin Saleh al Sada.

Telfat encouraged the students to make the most of their internships as the programme would give them an opportunity not only to apply what they have learned in university, but also to orient themselves with the nature of the jobs that they will eventually do after graduation. He urged them to perform their assigned duties well, observe discipline and leave a positive impression with their supervisors and colleagues at work.

Yousuf al Badr, a student at Texas A&M, said that the convention was an opportunity for the students to familiarise themselves with the work place as well as colleagues who they will be working with.

“The induction ceremony was aimed at giving us a brief introduction about Qatar Petroleum and its working environment. I would like to thank the leadership of this country for investing in the Qatari students. They are the gear of the future. I also thank QP for giving us this opportunity,” he said.

The students will undertake their internships in various QP directorates and departments, including drilling, gas operations, ICT, technical, legal, oil development, internal audit, HSE regulations and enforcement, refining, operations, HSE waste management, refining and maintenance, among others.
