A Political Solution for Syria
SYRIA, where I lived a quarter of a century ago to do research on the country's political economy, seems to be falling apart mainly because the political structures which I studied at that time have never really changed. Bashar Assad, after inheriting power from ...

WATCHING this campaign unfold reaffirms how much it would have benefited from a serious, centrist third-party challenger. It would have been so clarifying to have an independent voice calling out Mitt Romney for running a campaign that consists of decrying the last ...

Doha’s Pak Shamaa launches Cambridge education system

LN MALLICK

DOHA PAK Shamaa School and College — one of the oldest expatriate schools in Qatar — has decided to launch Cambridge system of education.

“Official consent from the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) has been obtained. At this moment, examination centre approval procedures are underway so that the first batch of Pak Shamaa Cambridge exams could be conducted towards the end of 2013,” said Principal Nabila Kaukab.

Founded in 1958, Pak Shamaa has served hundreds of thousands of students from Pakistan, Egypt, Algeria, India and Nepal. Pak Shamaa management is currently liaising with the British Council on various preparatory requirements while enjoying active support from Cambridge International Examination’s representatives for the Middle East and North Africa.

“With the ministerial level drive for internationally competitive systems of education and Qatar’s ambitious plan to bring its education system at par with the most advanced nations, Pak Shamaa has embarked on incorporating one of the world’s finest and most reputed system of education, the university of Cambridge Education, popularly known as Cambridge primary, secondary and Higher Secondary Education,” Kaukab said.

Kaukab recently held a meeting with Cambridge International Examination’s representatives for the Middle East and North Africa at her office. MA Shahid, president of school management committee, was also present on the occasion.

“Besides the external compliance and preparatory activities, Pak Shamaa is now in the process of making certain structural changes in its newly built school to accommodate the first batch of Cambridge students.

Extensive structural renovations coupled with interior remodeling of classrooms, smart-boards, computer facilities, to name a few are underway now,” said Kaukab.

Pak Shamaa stands for its commitment in delivering quality and affordable education. Over half a century of continuous development stand testimony to the character of the school and its devoted administration.

Three generations of students from the same family — father, son and grandson — have all studied in this school.

While Pak Shamaa has withstood the test of time and has proven its ability to evolve along with the education sector over the last 50 years, it is now poised to raise the bar by launching a new initiative, added the principal.
