QSports wraps up action-packed season 2


QSPORTS, the country’s premier social sports organisation with more than 2000 members wrapped up its second season at the Al Wakrah stadium on Friday. The actionpacked day saw finals of four different events followed by a presentation ceremony. Over, 1,100 athletes took part in various sporting events in the 10- week season 2
The concluding day of the season saw emergence of four champions. Rawal County won the cricket league; Stenden University won the football league; Captain Majid United was crowned indoor soccer champion. In the last event of the day, Sharks won the basketball final.

The officials of QSports said that it was a unique event as various sporting activities took place at the same time. “It was fantastic to have so many teams playing their final matches at the same event.

The fans had so much to cherish: football, basketball and cricket, “said Adil Ahmed, chief organiser of QSports.

The outdoor soccer final made people hold their breath as it was decided in penalties between Latin United FC and Stenden University with the latter coming out victorious by 4-2.

On the other hand, Captain Majid United dominated others the whole season, and cruised to victory in the finals against FC Kyber with a score of 3-2.

Last but not the least, the basketball finals was won by Sharks in a packed Al Wakrah indoor stadium.

The organising committee members also pointed out that the Women’s National Basketball team’s victory in Season One helped them in promoting the event. “It was a great final and we are happy that we could build on the success of that final match and attract more people to the event, “said Qasim Khalid, a member of the organising committee.

Representatives of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Go Sports and were at the venue to hand out trophies to the winners.

Director-General of Sports Affairs at QOC Khalil al Jaber said that the QOC will continue supporting this initiative of QSpoorts. “QOC will continue to support the QSports initiative in the coming years and foresees a strong working relationship developing between the QOC and QSports. Sports tournaments and leagues among community- based teams should be encouraged and QSports is perfectly placed to organise these tournaments,” Jaber added.
