Qatar leads MENA region on Global Peace Index
QATAR topped the Middle East and North African (MENA) region in Global Peace Index (GPI) 2012 report released in London on Tuesday. The index is published by Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) based in Sydney, Australia. Qatar took the first position among the Arab countries and 12th place on global level among 158 countries covered by the GPI. This year, the report covered five more countries to 153 countries listed last year. Qatar got 1.395 points.

Qatar-Iran Asian soccer qualifier ends in a draw
QATAR held fancied Iran to a goalless draw to walk away with a point in their Asian qualifier at the Azadi Stadium on Tuesday. After a 4-1 thrashing by South Korea in Doha last week, Qatar put a great deal of effort into their defence to frustrate the hosts, who have qualified for three World Cups, in front of a packed crowd at Iran’s famous stadium.
20,000 tonnes of uranium reserve found in Jordan
A JOINT venture between Jordan Energy Resources Incorporated and French nuclear giant Areva said on Tuesday it has discovered more than 20,000 tonnes of uranium in the Middle East kingdom. The Jordanian French Uranium Mining Company said 12,300 tonnes of uranium had been found in central Jordan last year, and now “the overall uranium potential on the licensed 70 square-kilometre (27 square miles) area exceeds 20,000.”
