 AT the foot of a Union
Square subway platform
staircase, an artist focused
on his delicate work,
maneuvering a fold of black
origami paper along half-open scissor
blades.
"Scissor doesn´t move, only paper
moves," he said to the rider posing for
him. "Nice young man," he bantered.
"How old are you? Like your hair."
The paper´s border flutters to the
dirty, gum-tacked floor. He peeled
open the fold to reveal an intricate,
slightly caricatured portrait of the
rider´s face, down to the hairs and
wrinkles. He taped it to a white-tiled
wall beside him, joining it with others,
oblivious of the gusts from the
passing trains that threatened to blow

 BEYONCE gave birth

now between
albums and tours. From a distance,
her four-night run of
shows, through Monday at
Revel, on the Boardwalk,
seemed to be functioning like an
advertisement for the grand
opening of a $2.4 billion casino,
hotel and luxury shopping cosmos.
It was a little unclear what she was
going to do for Friday night´s show,
her first postnatal gig.
She didn´t hit the stage until 10,
after the unannounced opening act,
Luke James, a young R&B singer with
a gym build and a pretty falsetto. The
signals had been mixed in an official
video made in the rehearsal period

 MODEL-TURNED-ACTRESS Tena
Desae, who featured in British
comedy-drama The Best Exotic
Marigold Hotel, shared screen
space with Dev Patel in the film
but says it is not justified to compare her to
Freida Pinto as their working styles are different.
"I don´t compare myself with Freida Pinto. She
has come a long way. She does only films in the
West. I am open to do both - Indian films and
films from the West," Tena said.
The common link between Tena and Freida is
that the latter also made her international debut
with British movie Slumdog Millioniare and her
co-star was Dev Patel.
