AMC to hold campaign on cancer today
DOHA ASTER Medical Centre (AMC), a division of the DM Healthcare Group, will organise an open-to-all event to raise awareness levels on cervical cancer among Doha residents. The event will be held at Aster Medical Centre in Musherib on Saturday. An initiative of Aster's Community Good Health Programme, the event would provide a platform to educate people on cervical cancer and also guiding women towards preventive care. Dr Hema Rajeev, gynecology specialist at Aster Medical Centre, said: "It's the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in females worldwide." She will talk in detail about cervical cancer and concentrate on the preventive measures, the symptoms and various treatment practices at the event. "Most cases of cervical cancer are easily preventable with regular screening tests such as pap smear. The most common symptom would be abnormal vaginal bleeding. It is completely curable when found in the early stages. It occurs most often in women of the age group of 20 and 50.
Rota-CNAQ team visits Bangladesh
DOHA A TEAM of 30 student and faculty volunteers from the College of the North Atlantic Qatar (CNAQ), organised by Reach Out To Asia (Rota) and sponsored by Vodafone Qatar, recently undertook a nine-day trip to visit a Rota project in Bangladesh. In an event at the Qatar Foundation Club House commemorating and recognising all those who made the event a success, Essa al Mannai, Rota director welcomed Narris Eaton, CNAQ vice-president, and Dr Ken Macleod, CNAQ president, who joined him in giving the volunteers appreciation certificates and thanked all the participants for their selfless efforts. "Although I know that none of you participated with the aim of getting recognised, I think it is only appropriate that I thank you, on behalf of Rota, for playing a role in fulfilling our goal of 'education for all.'
