arts censorship |
PARTICIPANTS at the Doha
Debates on Monday
expressed opposition to state
censorship of arts in the
Middle East region.
The rare display of frustration
with the practice
surfaced in a lively session
as participants discussed a
range of issues, including
the frequent cuts made in
foreign films shown in the
region and the blacking
out of images in Western
magazines.
However, around onethird
of the mainly Arab
audience still supported
state censorship.
In the end, art censorship
in the region was rejected
with 58 percent vote in
favour of the motion: ´This
house believes censorship
makes a mockery of the arts.´

journalists in dangerous areas | A WORKSHOP on enforcing
the recommendations of the
International Conference to
protect journalists in dangerous
situations was held on
the third day of the Doha
Forum for Enriching the
Middle East´s Economic
Future, on Tuesday.
The workshop was chaired
by President of the National
Committee for Human Rights
(QNCHR) Dr Ali bin Smaikh
al Marri.
Talking about the workshop,
Marri stated that the main
objective of the workshop was
to implement the recommendations
of the International
Conference on the protection
of journalists in dangerous situations
which was held by
QNCHR in Doha on January
22 and January 23, 2012.
