FRANCE is glad to be rid of
Nicolas Sarkozy, who lost the
country's presidency in a runoff
election this weekend to the
Socialist candidate, Francois
Hollande. He was ineffective in office
and prone to gaffes in public.
But the French will miss him more
...
THE French are revolting.
The Greeks, too. And it's
about time. Both countries
held elections on Sunday
that were in effect referendums
on the current European
economic strategy, and in both
countries voters turned two
thumbs down.
It's far from clear how soon the
votes will lead to changes ...

QATAR National Broadband
Network (Q.NBN) and Vodafone
Qatar have signed an interim
wholesale agreement to bring highspeed
communications to the residents
of Qatar. The agreement was
signed by Q.NBN CEO Mohamad
al Mannai and Vodafone Qatar
CEO Richard Daly.
The agreement will enable a
licensed telecom operator to use
Q.NBN´s network to deliver telecom
services to customers. It is an
important step towards establishing
Q.NBN´s commercial offering
in Qatar.
The signing represents the latest

Vodafone inked a heads of agreement.
This was to define how the

ROYAL Dutch Shell is in talks
with Iraq to cut the production
target for the Majnoon
oilfield, oil ministry documents
show, in a move that

downsizing of the country´s
unrealistic output goals.
The documents, seen by
Reuters, mention a reduction
in the target at the supergiant
Majnoon field to 1 million
barrels per day from 1.8
million bpd.
Shell executives met oil
ministry officials on March 15
and also proposed to extend
the oilfield´s plateau period -
the time in which its peak
production can be sustained
and which is to begin in 2017
- to more than 20 years from
seven years now.
Europe´s largest oil company

GERMANY and the
European Commission on
Tuesday called on EU nations
to stick to their agreed budget
cuts despite mounting voter
discontent, but promised
some new efforts to boost
growth to alleviate economic
hardship.
In elections on Sunday, voters
in France and Greece gave
strong support to parties who
want to roll back or slow
down the spending cuts and
tax increases that have
defined Europe´s response to
its debt crisis.
That added to cries from
labour unions and some governments
for more measures
to boost economic growth to
offset the devastating impact
on jobs that austerity measures
are having.
Officials in Berlin and
Brussels said there was some...
