DEATH OF A FAIRY TALE
THE good news first: People are finally admitting that austerity measures are not working. Now the bad news: There seems to be little prospect of a near-term course change. This was the month the confidence fairy died. For the past two years most policymakers in Europe and many politicians and ...

Qatar’s first Q-Flex LNG cargo reaches Brazil

DOHA

RASGAS Company Limited (RasGas) announced on Saturday that it achieved another significant milestone when the first fully loaded Q-Flex Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo was delivered to Petrobras at the Guanabara Bay Terminal in Brazil.

The LNG cargo was delivered aboard RasGas’ long-term chartered Q-Flex vessel the Al Aamriya. While RasGas has sold LNG cargoes to Brazil in the past, this latest shipment is the first delivered using a fully loaded Q-Flex vessel.

RasGas’ Marketing and Shipping Executive Khalid Sultan R al Kuwari said, “The delivery of this cargo by one of our long-term chartered Q-Flex ships to Brazil is a great achievement for both RasGas and Qatar. It is a demonstration of our ability to deliver a secure and reliable supply of LNG across most consuming regions.” “LNG is increasingly becoming the fuel of choice to meet rapidly expanding energy requirements in South America based on its environmental benefits, flexibility, reliability and cost. We look forward to continuing to support Brazil and the rest of South America’s energy needs and will continue looking for opportunities in the future,” he added.

The RasGas integrated shipping fleet consists of 27 LNG vessels, including 14 Conventional size and some of the world’s largest state-of-theart LNG vessels - 12 Q-Flex tankers (between 210,000m3 and 217,000m3) and one Q-Max vessel with an LNG cargo-carrying capacity of 266,000m3.

These huge vessels allow more LNG to be transported per journey and require less energy per unit of cargo. This results in lower transportation costs, improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions, ultimately enhancing RasGas’ flexibility to meet global demand.
