South African embassy celebrates Freedom Day

SANTHOSH CHANDRAN

DOHA THE South African embassy celebrated the country’s 18th Freedom Day with patriotic fervour on Thursday.

Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Saad bin Ibrahim al Mahmoud was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, South African Ambassador HE Saad Cachalia saluted the patriots who dedicated and sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom.

The function, which was held under the theme ‘Working Together to Build Unity and Prosperity for All’, was attended by government officials and diplomats of various countries.

“South Africa has registered considerable economic growth within a short span of time. Foreign investment in the country grew by 20 percent last year. South Africa has always maintained close bilateral and friendly relations in trade and business with Qatar.

The common vision about the peace and prosperity of all nations shared by both countries has also strengthened this bond,” the South African envoy said.

Cachalia pointed out that high-level visits between the countries have also strengthened their relationship.

“Some projects that were the outcomes of these visits are in the pipeline. Another delegation which will include agricultural experts and food exporters will visit Qatar to explore opportunities in agriculture and food production,” he said.

According to him, a South African cultural festival will be held at Katara in September.
