DOHA AS PART of the fourth edition of the ‘Schools without Accidents’ campaign, the media and traffic awareness section of the traffic department organised lectures and other activities in schools across the country. The campaign is sponsored by International Bank of Qatar (IBQ).

Awareness lectures were held at Ahmed Bin Hanbal, Mohammed Bin Abdul Wahab and Doha Secondary Independent Schools for Boys. The lectures covered traffic rules and regulations and the necessity of abiding by the rules and guidelines for motorists and pedestrians.

Traffic violations such as not wearing seat belt, breaching traffic signals and over speeding were also highlighted.

The lecturers said motorists should not exhibit behaviours that would create negative impression about driving in Qatar among tourists and people visiting the country.

They also stressed the necessity of adhering to traffic rules whether traffic policemen are present or not.

Following the lectures, awareness films and videos on wrong traffic behaviours such as wrong overtaking and driving over medians on the road were screened. The students were given opportunity to interact with lectures to clarify issues bugging them.

Leaflets and brochures were also distributed among the students.

The lectures were delivered by Lt Fahad Mubarak Shuridah, Lt Abdul Wahid Garib al Anzi, Warrant Officer Hassan al Hamr, Corp Abdul Muhsin al Asmar al Ruwaili, Corp Khalid Abdul Hadi and Constable Abdul Rahman Mohammed.

At the Doha Modern Secondary School, a car damaged in an accident was displayed and students were offered reasons for the accident.

The campaign was also taken to girls’ schools such Al Khor Primary, Al Isra Independent, Lusail Model, Umm Hani, Al Andulus Model Kindergarten, Al Rafa Independent, Al Salam Kindergarten and Al Mutazah Model.

Awareness officer at the traffic department Lt Fahad Shuraida said that the campaign would cover primary, secondary, independent, private, girls’ and boys’ schools and some kindergartens.

He applauded (IBQ) for sponsoring the campaign for the fourth consecutive year and said that it showed the bank’s commitments towards the country and the community.
