Civil Defence conducts mock drill at Hyatt Plaza

TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK

DOHA THE General Directorate of Civil Defence (GDCD) supervised a mock drill at Hyatt Plaza in coordination with security staff on Thursday.

The mock drill began after the building’s operation room and Civil Defence received information of “smoke emanating from one of the offices in the mall”.

Firefighting and rescue team from Aziziya Civil Defence Centre moved to the site. They were accompanied by fire engines. A 32m tall mobile escalator was used in the ensuing rescue services.

Ringing the alarm bell, the security personnel evacuated around 500 people from the building and guided staff and some customers in the mall to a safe assembly point.

The firefighting and rescue team contained the mock fire and they found three ‘injured’ persons, who were promptly moved to the ambulance.

Rescue Police (Al Fazaa) controlled the traffic in the affected area. The mock drive was supervised by First Lieutenant Khamees Salem al Suwaidi, head of Aziziya Civil Defence Centre and evacuation officer at the GDCD. He stressed on the significance of the exercise at commercial malls as hundreds of people visit shopping malls daily.
