ICAI to hold seminar on 2012 Indian budget
TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK
DOHA THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Doha Chapter will conduct a seminar titled ‘Highlights of the Indian Union Budget 2012 – Emphasis on Paradigm Shift in Taxation of Services’ at the Hotel Wyndham Grand Regency, on April 22.
Bhavna Gautam Doshi, chartered accountant and senior advisor at KPMG and ICAI Central Council Member will address the seminar.
ICAI Doha Chapter Chairman Venkat Ramamurthy said, “In matters relating to taxes, questions rarely change, but the answers do. The Indian Finance Bill 2012 has, however, changed a number of questions relating to service tax. It has proposed radical amendments to bring about a paradigm shift in the manner services will be taxed in India.” He said that the selective service specific approach is now migrating towards negative list- based taxation of services that will bring a wide range of services within its fold and set aside scope for interpretation.
“These legislative amendments need to be understood thoroughly by our members.
Doshi will enlighten us on the proposed new legislation and demystify the provisions contained therein,” he said.
