Afghan women on the move

THIS refers to the Opinion page article, “A precarious crossroads for Afghan women.” It was a relief to read that Afghan women are not living in miserable conditions as they have for decades. Not only can they work now, but they also have 28 percent reservation in the country’s parliament. If that reservation is fully utilised by the women of the country, they can surely bring about a lot more changes.

However, there is still a lot left to be achieved. International community should come forward and offer as much help to the brave Afghani women, who have suffered the most during the last 35 years of war in the country, as possible.

One of the most important areas which needs attention is relief for women who are punished for socalled ‘moral crimes’.
