Ritz-Carlton showcases works of Qatari artist

TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK

DOHA THE Ritz-Carlton, Doha is currently showcasing 11 oil canvas paintings of local artist Abdulrahman al Dorani at its La Dolce Vita, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

Al Dorani’s artwork reflects various styles, such as a fusion of modern realism with progressive Arabic influence, through landscapes of the village he grew up in and abstracts, the release said.

Born and raised in Doha, Abdulrahman al Dorani had no ambition of becoming a professional artist. After finishing high school in the 1980s, he studied aviation in the United States and electronic engineering in the United Kingdom. To him, drawing was purely a gateway for relaxation.

“I started drawing at the age of seven, mostly comic book characters like Batman and Superman,” Dorani explained, “I have never taken any lesson in drawing or painting – so technically, I am a self taught artist.” Over the years, Abdulrahman has collected over one hundred artworks in his residency, but it has never been shown to the public.

This is the first time his works are being exhibited to the public.
