 | QIB net profit up 21%
to QR388mn in Q1 QATAR Islamic Bank (QIB),
Qatar´s second-largest lender
by market value, posted a 20.9
percent jump in first-quarter
net profit, the bank said in a
statement on Wednesday. The
bank made a net profit of
QR388 million ($106.6 million).

| | QNB boosts offer for Dexia´s Turkish unit | QATAR National Bank (QNB)
has made a higher bid for
Denizbank, the Turkish unit of
stricken Belgian lender Dexia,
after earlier talks stalled over
price, four sources familiar with
the matter said.
"The bid has been reactivated,
and is on the table," said one
source.
"The new offer is closer to
what Dexia is expecting," he
added, saying that QNB´s original
offer had been dismissed as
too low.
No immediate comment was
available from QNB and their
advisors Citigroup declined to
comment. The sources spoke on
condition of anonymity as the
matter is not public.
Denizbank shares rose as
much as 5.7 percent on the news.

(RBI) will consider gradually
relaxing curbs on intra-day
position limits in the forex
market that were imposed in
December to curb speculative
bets on the rupee, a deputy
governor said.
The central bank will consider
such measures "within
the overarching prerequisite
of facilitating genuine hedging
needs of the customers,"
H R Khan said in a speech at
a foreign exchange dealers´
conference in Zurich, which
was put up on the RBI website
on Wednesday.
In December, the central
bank had imposed restrictions
on intra-day trading limits to
stem a sharp fall in the rupee.

BOEING Co said it has made
several design choices for its
upcoming 737 MAX, the reengined
version of its bestselling
narrowbody aircraft,
to ensure it hits its ambitious
fuel-efficiency targets.
The plane-maker said it
would improve the craft´s
aerodynamics by extending
the tail cone and changing the
way it integrates the engine
with the wing.
Boeing last year unveiled
plans to put new fuel-efficient
engines in its existing 737
design. Boeing named the aircraft
the MAX and said it
would enter service in 2017.
