QBRI to start work from WCMC-Q
JOSEPH VARGHESE
DOHA THE Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) is set to initiate its activities from Weil Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q), according to Javaid Sheikh, dean of the college.
Established by the Qatar Foundation, the QBRI aims to foster programmes in biomedical research in partnership with local and international research bodies.
“The relationship between WCMC-Q and QBRI will be a collaborative partnership to tackle the healthcare needs of the country. WCMC-Q and QBRI are at present working closely towards these goals.
In fact, QBRI will initiate its activities at WCMC-Q as the college has made available research wet-bench space specifically for QBRI’s usage,” he said.
WCMC-Q has signed an affiliation agreement with Sidra Medical and Research Center. “WCMC-Q students will continue to receive excellent clinical education at HMC, while complementing this training using Sidra’s advanced technologies like robotics, computer-aided surgery and diagnostics, digital imaging and electronic patient records,” he said.
WCMC-Q faculty members will teach and help in patient care and research at Sidra to support the “full development of tripartite mission” of education, research, he added.
QBRI aims to deliver health benefits to local patients and to create new business ventures by imparting fresh medical knowledge that makes better personalised and predictive care possible.
This new level of medical care is achieved by bringing academic health sciences closer to hospital practice and improving delivery to communities.
