Qatar, Philippines sign agreements

AP

MANILA QATAR’S ruler has talked with President Benigno Aquino III at the start of his two-day state visit to the Philippines and witnessed the signing of four agreements to bolster ties.

The Emir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani met with Aquino at the presidential palace on Tuesday.

It was the first visit of HH the Emir to the Philippines since ties were established 31 years ago.

Aquino’s spokesman Edwin Lacierda says the agreements signed involved tourism, sharing of best legal practices, agriculture and fisheries, and investments.

Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario says the Philippines wants to discuss ways to increase opportunities for Filipino workers.

Qatar is host to 175,000 of them.
