16 dead in Libya clashes
AT least 16 people were killed on Saturday in tribal clashes in the southern Libyan desert oasis of Sabha, taking the toll to nearly 147 dead and 395 wounded in six days. A doctor at Sabha hospital, treating Arab tribal casualties, said eight people were killed and another 50 wounded in fighting between the early morning and noon.
40 dead in Yemen clashes
AT least 40 people were killed in heavy fighting on Saturday between the army and suspected Al Qaeda militants in Yemen’s province of Lahij, officials said. Seventeen soldiers were killed when the Islamist fighters attacked army positions in Mallah. Eleven soldiers were missing and also believed to be dead. An official in the Al Qaeda stronghold of Jaar said 12 militants were also killed.
