| | South Africa beats India by 11 runs in Twenty20 | | NEW DELHI A BLAZING innings by India's Gautam Gambhir could not prevent a South African win in a rainhit one-off Twenty20 international at the Wanderers Stadium on Friday.
Gambhir slammed 49 not out off 28 balls as India raced to 71 for no wicket in 7.5 overs in reply to South Africa's 219 for four in 20 overs. But South Africa's big total meant that India were 11 runs short of the Duckworth/Lewis par score when a thunderstorm broke over the ground and the match was halted.
Jacques Kallis and Colin Ingram shared a rapid century partnership as South Africa posted a formidable total.
Kallis made 61 off 42 balls and the left-handed Ingram raced to 78 off 50 deliveries after South Africa were sent in to bat.
The pair put on 119 of 80 balls for the second wicket.
Indian captain MS Dhoni used eight bowlers but runs flowed as the batsmen took advantage of a good batting pitch, short boundaries and a fast outfield.
Richard Levi gave the hosts a fast start, hitting four boundaries before being caught at slip for 19 off seven balls.

| | UAE's Mansoori, Tayer claim UIM Nations Cup title | | KHOR FAKKAN (UAE) TEAM Qatar finished second overall in the UIM Nations Cup, held for the first time off the Khor Fakkan coast in the Sharjah emirate of the UAE, on Friday.
Trailing Team UAE by five points heading into the two 20-minute races on Friday, Team Qatar's Khalid Saleh al-Shamlan and Khalid Abdullah al-Kuwari knew they would need to overcome Majed al-Mansoori and Rashid al-Tayer to stand any chance of claiming the UIM Nations Cup title for the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF).
Al-Shamlan began the first 20-lap race in determined fashion and held the initiative for nine laps before slowing with a hand injury.
His demise enabled Team UAE's al-Mansoori and al- Tayer to pass and al- Mansoori reached the chequered flag in first position.
Al-Tayer shadowed his Emirati Class One partner to the finish to confirm maximum points for Team UAE, as al-Shamlan finished a disappointed third with a minor engine problem and a damaged hand.
Team Qatar's al-Kuwari held fourth position for much of the race, but slipped behind Team Finland's Risto Painio near the end and was classified in fifth place.
With al-Shamlan continuing with a suspected broken thumb and starting from third position, he was always going to struggle for success in race two... |

After Llorente put Bilbao ahead in the 20th minute, Schalke's Raul Gonzalez rallied the hosts back in front with two goals on each side of halftime.
But Llorente headed in the leveller in the 73rd to turn the high-tempo contest in Bilbao's favour for good, as Oscar de Marcos and Iker Muniain scored late on at Veltins Arena.
"It was a great game," Llorente said. "It wasn't at all easy because they responded very well to our first goal. What Raul did was incredible. You can't ask anything more of a match." Also, Dutch league leader AZ Alkmaar beat Valencia 2-1, while Sporting Lisbon downed Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv 2-1.
The second legs will be next Thursday. Both sides started well but Bilbao struck first through Llorente when he poked in his own rebound that goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand failed to hold on to... |
