Lekhwiya retains QSL title after drawing with Arabi

IKOLI VICTOR

DOHA LEKHWIYA has won the prestigious Qatar Stars League title for the second consecutive year.

With 42 points from 20 matches, Lekhwiya emerged winner even after it was held to a 1-1 draw in a QSL match by Al Arabi at the Al Arabi Stadium on Sunday.

Though Lekhwiya managed to take a lead early in the game with Ali Afif scoring a goal in the third minute, Abdulaziz Hatem of Al Arabi equalised in the 83rd minute to deny the QSL Champions a straight victory.

Celebrating the victory with players and team officials, Lekhwiya’s Coach Djamel Belmadi said, “It was a special game for us; we were playing for the title and didn’t want to wait till the last game. I want to say thank you to our players, administrators and technical staffs for winning the league title for a second time.”
