IT is rare for obscure historical

Iran's agreement to suspend its nuclear
program in 2003 - seemingly affirm
the international community's
approach to Iran. After all ... |

West surprises Preston
TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK
DOHA DANIEL West of England stunned higher-ranked compatriot Alexdander Preston in straight games to qualify for the Barwa Bank PSA Challenger Squash Tournament main round on Thursday.
At the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, West was focussed and played well throughout 27 minutes of his 1107 11-8 11-7 victory to pick up one of the four qualifying places.
He will play fourth seed Karim Samy of Egypt in his opening match.
Fallah Mohammed, who had qualified for the main round of the first event in the Challenger Five series, advanced again, beating his Kuwaiti higher-ranked compatriot Mohammed Hajeyah as the latter called quits after suffering from hamstring injury. Hajeyah, who had also once played in the main round of the Al Khaliji Tournament earlier in Doha, was trailing 8-11 2-6 before the injury forced him off the court.
Tarek Salah Shehata of Egypt and Norway’s Kim Are Killingberg grabbed the remaining two slots in the main round.
The most thrilling match of the day featured Shehata against David Haley of Wallis & Futuna Islands. The Egyptian lost the opening game but returned into the contest after winning the second by 12-10. He won the third one also but Haley tied the scores with the victory in the fourth game.
The decider saw Shehata control the proceedings and win it with ease to wrap up the 69-minute-long match.
But Haley later turned out to be the luckiest among the losers as he replaced Egyptian Bassem Makarm in the main draw. The Egyptian has withdrawn from the event.
Killingberg was kept busy on the court for 43 minutes by Scotland’s Jonathan Geekie.
After sharing the first two games, the Norwegian raise his performance bar and quickly clinched the next two games to win by 11-8 10-12 11- 4 11-6 to make it to the main round.
Earlier in the first round, all six Qatari players bowed out.
As expected Abdulrahman al Malki emerged as the most fighting player among the locals. He lost the match to Hejeyah in 36 minutes after claiming the first game.
