Mohammad, Omar enter last eight

OMAR Jufairi and Mohammad al Mohannadi of Qatar made it to the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open Tennis Tournamant for under-14 players with straight wins at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

Jufairi defeated Syrian Joud Alzama by 6-4 6-1 and Mohannadi pulled off an easier win against Lebanese Mark Elboustany by 6-2 6-1.

The third Qatari player, Issa Shannan who had advanced to second round, lost to Chamas Carlos of Lebenon 6-2 6-1.

Pakistan’s Shaibzada Ali who played a good round one was no match to Karim Najia of Lebenon as he overpowered him in straight sets 6-3 6-0.

Another Lebanese who made it to the next round was Jean Marie Yazbeck who had to fight had for his victory against Saudi Arabia’s Abdulrehman Aljohani. The match was decided in the third set and Yazbeck emerged victorious by 3-6 7-6 (1) 7-5.

The Lebanese domination continued as Tamime Hallak soared past Armin Rostami of Iran by 6-0 6-0.

In the girls section, two Qatari players who had made it to the second round were ousted. Neila Chokri was defeated by Saudi Arabia’s Areej Fareh by 7-5 6-1.

Mubarak al Naimi suffered defeat at the hands of Iraqi Ghada Al Ajeely by ) 6-1 6-0.

Saba Najafi Dehaghi of Iran had to face some spirited resistance from Alice Muasher from Jordan before advancing with a 6-0 7-5 victory.

She was also joined in the quarter-finals by Melissa Jatawardene of Sri Lanka, Andrea Auzoux (France), Rama Bagaeen (Jordan) and Ghada al Ajeely of Iraq.
