Rebuilding Egypt
ON most days, there's a deceptive normalcy to Tahrir Square, centre stage of Egypt's 2011 revolution. Traffic, not protesters, paralyses the streets. But politics are still roiling. This is a crucial period for Egypt. Between now and July 1 ...

Qatar cultural week in Japan in July

TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK

DOHA QATAR will hold a cultural week in Japan in July, according to the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al Kuwari.

Speaking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of Japan tsunami photo exhibition on Sunday, the minister said, “We will hold Qatari cultural week in Japan in July which will represent the strength of the relations between Qatar and Japan in all fields. It will also show how Qatar views Japan as an example of resilience in the face of challenges. We are impressed by the way the government is rebuilding the country after the disaster.” “We have year-long lineup of activities this year as part of the 40th anniversary of the relationship between Qatar and Japan. We are going to hold various events reflecting all aspects of culture in Qatar as well as in Japan. The crowning part of this celebration will be organised in Japan in July and hopefully I will be lucky to be with my Japanese friends for the celebrations,” he said.

According to the minister, Japan will also be the guest of honour at this year’s Qatar International Book Fair.

“Japanese culture is very rich but unfortunately the Arab world is not much familiar with it. That is why we want to make Japan as our guest of honour in this year’s international Book Fair. The International Book Fair is not only exhibiting books but also other events of special interest.

I am sure it will be phenomenal,” he added.

Thanking the government of Qatar for its support, Japanese Ambassador to Qatar HE Kenjiro Monji said, “We appreciate what Qatar is doing for us in our recunstruction efforts. Many activities will continue to bring us together throughout the year.

We hope to show many Japanese films at the Tribecca Film Festival and many others will come. I hope many people can enjoy the shows.” (CWG)
