for Group II Thoroughbreds at

Flying Destination really flew
to the triumph in the 1,600m
showcase race, beating General
Duke´s, ridden by Darren
Williams, by a length to the second
place. Al Muthanaa, with
Gerard Avranche as the rider
who had a superb Tuesday with
a pulsating double, finished
third.
De Vries, whose earlier best of
the day was a fourth-place finish
in the Purebred Arabian
Handicap 0 to 40, struck a magnificent
pace on Flying
Destination, trained by Jassim al

SAUDI ARABIA crashed out
of World Cup qualifying with
a 4-2 loss away to Australia
on Wednesday, as Oman progressed
to the final round of
Asian qualifiers at its neighbor´s
expense.
Another Asian powerhouse,
South Korea, escaped the
same fate as the Saudis by
beating Kuwait 2-0. South
Korea entered the game
knowing a loss could result in
early elimination, and had a
nervous game before scoring
twice midway through the
second half.
Qatar scored a late equalizer
to draw 2-2 with Iran and
advance despite Bahrain
beating Indonesia 10-0.
Bahrain needed to make up a
nine-goal deficit and for
Qatar to lose to go through.

QATAR will take part in the
upcoming Asian Cricket
Council Under-16
Championship, to be played
in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The feature of the team is
that three Qatari boys have
been selected in the national
squad for the first time. The
Qatari boys are Khalid al
Ansari, Abdul Rahman Saadi
and Mohammed Humaid.
The event will be held in
Chiang Mai from March 3 to
10. Apart from Qatar, five
other national teams are also
contesting in the championship.
They are:
Afghanistan, Bhutan, China,
Maldives and The U.A.E.
The squad left Doha for
Thailand on Wednesday via
Sri Lanka.
