Obama apologises to Karzai
US President Barack Obama sent Afghan President Hamid Karzai a letter of apology on Thursday over the burning of copies of the Koran overseen by a US officer at a US military base, the White House said. Obama said the incident was unintentional, and Karzai’s office said the US president pledged a full investigation, as fierce anti-American protests swept the nation leaving 14 people dead including two US soldiers.
Qatar, West mull action against Syria over violence
NATIONS including Qatar, Britain, the United States and Turkey on Thursday were considering what action to take against Syria over its violent assaults on the regime opponents. Britain’s Foreign Secretary William Hague said. “I’ll be discussing on Thursday with (US Secretary of State) Hillary Clinton and many of the Arab League leaders what we can achieve,” Hague told BBC radio ahead of the meting.
