Lorgat to address sports security meet in Doha

THE International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) announced on Thursday that Haroon Lorgat, Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council, will speak at its annual two-day conference starting in Doha on 14 March.

The 2nd International Sport Security Conference will bring together key decision- makers, experts and practitioners in sport from around the globe.

Lorgat was appointed Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2008 and led the governing body’s response to the gunmen attacks on the Sri Lankan national cricket team in Pakistan in 2009.

He will join Bernard Lapasset, Chairman of the International Rugby Board, Sir Dave Richards, Chairman of the Premier League and Nick Keller, Chairman of the Sport Industry Group on the panel discussion entitled New Frontiers: Rewards and Challenges to Growing a Sporting Brand in New Markets. This session will examine how best to grow sporting brands and franchises in new and emerging markets and will explore media and marketing strategies which have lead to successful expansion of brands in the past.

With a focus on how to ensure a lasting sport and security legacy from major events, the 2nd International Sport Security Conference has also announced that Kevin Underwood, Vice President for Master Planning at AECOM will be joining its Master Planning Master Class: The Importance of Planning Ahead panel.

Underwood leads AECOM’s master planning practice and has worked extensively on city and community plans for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the 2022 FIFA World Cup QatarTM.

Mohammed Hanzab, President of the ICSS, said: “The International Sport Security Conference provides an important platform for sharing information and exploring best practice, as well as addressing the most pressing issues in sport today.
