Three killed in Egypt during protests over soccer riots
POLICE in Cairo fired tear gas and birdshot at protesters angry over a deadly soccer riot as fresh clashes on Egyptian streets killed three people on Friday, according to a volunteer doctor and health officials. One man died just feet away from the Interior Ministry, which has become a target for demonstrators furious that the police failed to prevent a soccer riot that killed 74 people in Port Said.
19 protesters killed in Syria
AT least 19 people, among them two children and three army defectors, were killed on Friday around Damascus when government forces stormed areas that have witnessed recent anti-regime protests, Syrian activist Omar Idlbi said. Protesters flooded towns and cities across Syria defying a brutal government crackdown to commemorate the notorious 1982 massacre in the city of Hama that killed tens of thousands.
