Engine Alliance | QATAR Airways has awarded a
contract to Engine Alliance to supply
engines for 10 Airbus A380
superjumbos, the engine maker
said on Thursday.
Engine Alliance is a joint venture
between General Electric Co
and United Technologies Corp´s
Pratt and Whitney subsidiary. It
competes with Britain´s Rolls-
Royce to supply engines for the
world´s largest jetliner.
The 50/50 joint venture between
General Electric and Pratt &
Whitney beat UK rival Rolls-Royce
to the contract, which is worth $1.4
billion at catalogue prices.

$30.9bn on high oil prices | ENERGY giant Royal Dutch
Shell said on Thursday that
2011 net profit jumped 54 percent
to $30.92 billion (23.6
billion euros) on higher oil
prices, but also revealed a drop
in fourth-quarter earnings.
The profit after tax figure
compared with net income of
$20.47 billion during 2010,
Shell said in a results statement.
The group was boosted
as Brent oil prices averaged
$110.91 per barrel last year.
However, the Anglo-Dutch
firm also revealed that net
profits slipped four percent to
$6.5 billion in the fourth quarter,
or three months to the end
of December, compared with
same part of 2010.

role in EU rescue, says Wen | CHINA is considering
increasing its participation
in the rescue funds aimed at
resolving the European debt
crisis, Chinese Premier Wen
Jiabao told journalists on
Thursday.
But Wen did not make any
explicit financial commitments
for the European
Financial Stability Facility
(EFSF) or the upcoming
European Stability
Mechanism (ESM).
At a joint media briefing in
Beijing with visiting German
Chancellor Angela Merkel,
Wen said China is still
studying how it might lend
further support.
