Darfur mayor hails Qatar’s peace efforts

QNA

KHARTOUM MAYOR of North Darfur State Osman Mohammed Yousef Kibir has said that the Doha Document for peace in Darfur has succeeded in bringing about positive interaction between the international community and the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM).

Kibir said in a statement on Tuesday that Darfur has witnessed the birth of genuine peace in a new environment following the collapse of the Muammar Qadhafi regime in Libya, improvement in relations between Khartoum and N’Djamena, and the positive response of the local community to the cause of peace in the region.

He added that the peace process has attracted public support and overwhelming voices calling for peace, consistent with the provisions of the Doha Document.

The mayor further said that the positive indicators are expected to lead to the transformation of the work of NGOs and UN agencies from relief to development, focusing on the key issues in Darfur like education, water, and health.
