Doha forum for alliances to combat human trafficking
GOVERNMENT bodies tasked with combating human trafficking in Arab countries have a vital role to play in implementation of the Arab Initiative for Building National Capacities to Combat Human Trafficking, the second Doha Forum on Combating Human Trafficking has said in its final statement which was read out by Director General of Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking Maryam al Malki. Participants at the two-day forum held under the title "Launch of the Arab Initiative for Building National Capacities to Combat Human Trafficking" under the auspices of HH Sheikha Moza called upon government bodies in Arab countries concerned with combating human trafficking to participate effectively in the implementation of the regional Arab initiative. They called for establishing national alliances between government bodies, civil society organisations and Arab countries to help implement activities and programmes of the Arab Initiative for Building National Capacities to Combat Human Trafficking. They also called for coordination between government organs and civil society organisations to prepare and implement education programmes on combating human trafficking and the organising joint conferences for exchange of expertise. ...
PWF swears in new steering committee
DOHA THE Pakistan Welfare Forum (PWF) inducted a new steering committee for the next session 2012-2013 at its Annual General Assembly meeting held at the Pakistan embassy recently. Pakistan's Ambassador to Qatar HE Muhammad Sarfaraz A Khanzada, who is patron-in-chief of the forum, attended the function as the chief guest. Nadeem Bashir will be the new president while other office bearers are Ahmed Hussain (vice president), Dr Abdur Rehman (general secretary), Ghias Akhtar (deputy secretary), Asfandiar Ansari (finance secretary) and Siyab Khan (information secretary). Other members include Haji Nasib Shah, Shiraz Khan, Kabal Khan, M Raheel Khan, Riaz Baqali, Rehmat Baloch, Mehtab Satti, Sher Ali, M Yaqoob Qamar and Aftab Ahmed. Bashir thanked PWF members for expressing their confidence by endorsing him for the new position. He laid out his vision to take the PWF to new heights by building on the success of the previous PWF team. He said special attention will be given to increase the membership base. BPS organises eighth annual athletic meet
DOHA BIRLA Public School (BPS) recently held its 8th Annual Athletic Meet at the Al Ahli Sports Club, in Doha. The event was attended by the basketball team captain of Qatar Yaseen Ismail, who was also the chief guest, C V Rappai, chairman BPS management committee; Gope Shahani, director; K M Varghese, life member and other dignitaries. Tributes were paid to the Indian Sporting legends of all times. The students donned the attire of eminent personalities and their contributions to the nation were commemorated at the occasion. In his opening address at the event, the chief guest Yaseen Ismail highlighted the achievements of Qatar in the field of Basketball and exalted the students to lead a disciplined life if they wish to be true sportsmen and women. Highlights of the athletic meet include a March Past by the four houses; Mars, Saturn, Neptune and Jupiter with each house led by its respective House Captain and Vice Captain.
