DOHA THE second Qatar Motor Show will give a boost to the tourism industry in Qatar, said Lahdan Ghanim al Mohannadi, head of local exhibitions at Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA).
Speaking at a press conference to announce the details of Qatar Motor Show on Sunday, Mohannadi said that the first edition of the show attracted more than 90,000 people from the region and other countries.
The Qatar Motor Show 2012 will be held at the Doha Exhibitions Center from January 25 to 28.
“This year we expect a larger number of people to be a big boost for tourism in the country,” Mohannadi said.
He also said that this year’s edition with an expanded outdoor experience will include trial bikes and stunt riders in addition to FMX, drifting shows and test drives.
A showcase of motorbikes will be a new fixture while classic cars will be on display at a dedicated pavilion in partnership with Al Fardan Classic Cars, he added.
Mohannadi also said that 36 automobile manufacturers participated in the show last year and the same number has been confirmed for this year as well. “The show will establish a sound and strong auto industry in the country and there will be opportunities for investment for entrepreneurs.
Many high profile brands will be exhibiting and many industry VIPs will be in attendance, reflecting confidence in the show and the developments that are taking place in the industry in Doha,” he said.
According to Dany Hachem, group advisor of events, at qmedia, the show floor will feature many wellknown exhibitors showcasing automobiles, bikes and accessories, as well as a unique automotive experience to Qatar’s car-loving residents.
He said, “We want to play a central role in building Qatar’s position in the automotive industry. Since Qatar has defined a vision to diversify its economy and develop knowledge- based industries, and create skilled jobs, development of a robust industrial sector is part of the vision.” He added that Qatar has already made taken steps into the automotive sector internationally with a 17 percent stake in Volkswagen AG.
“At the Qatar Science & Technology Park, companies like Shell and Williams F1 are investing in the development of technology that contributes to the future of mobility. We will showcase this and more at the Qatar Motor Show and the Middle East Automotive Summit,” he said.
The summit will be a unique platform for key regional and international interest groups to discuss and debate the global automotive industry.
Hachem said, “This show is more than just an everyday automotive event. We aim to spark new developments in the industry, and at the same time offer a truly unique automotive experience to the residents of Qatar.” The diamond sponsor of the event, Qatar Shell will host a stand with four different motorsports related interactive experiences; all built around Shell’s 60-year old partnership with Formula One Team, Scuderia Ferrari.
