Thai princess visits, lauds QF

DOHA Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand began a two-day visit of Qatar on Sunday with a tour of Education City at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF). The welcoming delegation was led by Haya bint Khalifa al Nassr, director of communications at QF.
The Thai princess saw a presentation outlining the vision and mission of QF, before viewing a 3D scale model of the Qatar Foundation site, including future construction projects.
During lunch, gifts were exchanged between the Thai princess and Dr Abdulla bin Ali al Thani, president of Hamad Bin Khalifa University and vice-president for education at QF.
Princess Maha visited the Qatar Academy, Awsaj Institute of Education and the Faculty of Islamic Studies.
The Thai princess, who has an impressive background in academia, took a keen interest in learning more about QF.
In Thailand, she is often referred to as ‘The Princess of Technology’, or ‘The Princess of Information Technology’, because of her wide-ranging interest and expertise in the application of science to the goal of national development.
A history graduate, the princess who holds a doctorate in educational development, said, “Qatar Foundation is doing a wonderful job in education, science and community development, so I wanted to see what they have been doing.
QF’s work is impressive and I am planning to send some of my colleagues here if possible. I like education because it is the means to give more opportunities to people.
“If people have more knowledge, they then will be more capable of future achievements. I think QF is full of hard-working people who are all very committed to reach to the other corner of the world and I hope to come back to Doha again in the future.” The Thai Princess concluded her trip on Monday with visits to Mathaf Arab Museum of Modern Art and the Arab and Islamic Heritage Library at QF.
