| | Qtel Group, GSMA introduce mobile healthcare service | DOHA QTEL Group has introduced a service that will enable diabetic patients in Kuwait, Iraq and Palestine to use their mobile phones to receive personalised alerts and information on exercise and diet The initiative is named mHealth service. 'mHealth' is a term used for the practice of medicine using wireless devices, such as mobile phones, PDAs and remote monitoring devices, to improve patient care.
Representatives from the Qtel Group and some of the world's innovative companies recently met in Qatar to discuss such innovations to mobile healthcare as well as how mobile phone technology can be used to support key healthcare goals across the region.
The participants at the event included delegates from Qtel Qatar, Indosat, Wataniya Kuwait, Nawras, Asiacell, Nedjma, Tunisiana, Bravo, Wataniya Maldives and Wataniya Palestine, which cover mobile markets across the Middle East, North Africa and Asia.
The representatives shared experience on the dynamics of the health industry and how operators can make a difference to both patients and societies worldwide.
The workshop also explored how specific OpCos in the Qtel Group could take advantage of key opportunities in the telecommunications sector and help to build sustainable mHealth ecosystems.
... | | | Filipino bands join hands for Sendong fundraiser | DOHA FILIPINO bands in Qatar will join forces to continue the community's efforts to raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Sendong in the Philippines at a concert on January 20.
A number of the local bands will perform along with a Manila-based Filipino rock band Alamid during the show at Al Arabi Stadium.
The show, which is named 'Music for Life', is part of the series of fundraising activities organised by Fresh Events and Production in collaboration with other Filipino organisations.
The event, which will be held in collaboration with Dugong Pinoy-United Filipino Volunteers, will feature over 10 local bands, including Samad, Klische, Forces of Eros, The Juniors, Dukedoms, Project 206, Emblem of Zion, Areacode Reload, ODA and more.
Talking to Qatar Tribune on Wednesday, Celia Jacob of Fresh Events and Production said, "Music for Life is the last part of the three events we have planned to help the victims of Typhoon Sendong... | | | 600 kids attend fun event at tennis fest | DOHA OVER 600 children took part in a two-hour session on the sidelines of the ongoing Qatar ExxonMobil Open on Wednesday.
The session is a preschool tennis promotional event for boys and girls aged between four and five years. It featured fun activities like face painting, drawing, clowns' show and fitness demonstration.
Each child received a gift at the end of the session.
With 95 percent of the children being Qatari, it was a huge success in exposing local youth to the game. Around 25 coaches and volunteers also took part in the event at the 'Kids Zone'.
Khaled al Khelaifi, Qatar Tennis Federation board member and the head of national teams, is the force behind the initiative that seeks to increase the popularity of the game in Qatar.
"We held promotional festivals throughout the year in Doha and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2012 gives us the perfect opportunity to expose youngsters to all that tennis has to offer. They can experience the fun of the game, see current stars in action and be inspired to pursue their own tennis goals," Khelaifi said.
