SC denies bail to Madhani

IANS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM THE Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman Abdul Nazir Madhani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore blast case.

It also denied his plea for medical treatment in Kerala.

An apex court bench headed by Justice P Sathasivam said: “We are not inclined to enlarge him on bail.” When senior counsel Sushil Kumar appearing for Madhani asked the court to add that they were not inclined to enlarge him on bail at “this stage”, the court declined the request saying in that case, “some one will move the court again in February”.

It also rejected his plea to be sent to Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala in Kerala for ayurvedic treatment and directed the Karnataka government to provide him all the medical treatment needed for his ailments.

When Sushil Kumar told the court that treatment that was being given to Madhani at Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala was not available in Karnataka, the court observed: “Let the doctors say so that they don’t have sufficient infrastructure to treat him there.” At this, senior counsel MN Krishnamani appearing for Karnataka government told the court that the treatment being given at Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala was also available in Bangalore and Madhani was treated there last year.
