7 QC relief projects help 20,000 in Somalia
DOHA WITH about QR1.2 million donated by benefactors from Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Qatar Charity (QC) has established seven relief projects in Somalia for the benefit of 20,000 displaced families. Executive Director of International Development at QC Jassim al Salem said that the projects aim to facilitate the return of the displaced as well as the reconstruction of areas affected by drought. "This will enable the returnees to have a decent stable life in their original places, transferring them from people in need to productive people," Salem said. Targeting Bay, Bakool and lower Shabelle provinces, the projects include the provision of basic cooking equipment at the cost of QR602,000 for 3,000 families, plastic sheets costing QR424,000, for 7,750 families, a childhood malnutrition project worth QR33,000, a potable water project worth QR28,000, a project to provide water tank to an orphanage at the cost of QR15,000, a project to provide support to the Afgooye Centre for Maternal and Child Care at QR11,000, and a project to purchase and distribute mosquito nets costing QR70,000. ...
Qatar assures Libya of support on human rights issues
DOHA DIRECTOR of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr Ali bin Smaykh al Marri stressed Qatar's continuous support to the Libyan revolution and its National Transitional Council and added that it would continue till freedom and democracy are firmly established in Libya. He said this during a meeting with Libya's Minister of Justice Mohamed al Allaqi which was held to discuss a protocol between NHRC and the Supreme Council of Human Rights in Libya. He said that Libya should implement its regulations in conformity with the Paris Human Rights Principles and added that Qatar would assist the Libyan authorities in this. He used the opportunity to review NHRC's activities in the country and beyond. He said the committee was already the vice-president of the Asian Network and would be appointed president of the network in 2013. ...
SENDONG EXPOSES PHILIPPINES' LACK OF DISASTER PREPAREDNESS: EXPATS
TYPHOON Sendong also known as 'Washi' battered the Mindanao region of the Philippines, killing over one thousand people and leaving more than 370,000 homeless. The southern port cities of Cagayan De Oro and Iligan bore the brunt of the disaster and suffered most fatalities. As the government agencies continue their search for likely survivors, various international organisations and communities have been sending donations and relief materials to the victims who are currently living in temporary shelters across the country.
