Qatar assures Libya of support on human rights issues

DOHA DIRECTOR of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr Ali bin Smaykh al Marri stressed Qatar’s continuous support to the Libyan revolution and its National Transitional Council and added that it would continue till freedom and democracy are firmly established in Libya.
He said this during a meeting with Libya’s Minister of Justice Mohamed al Allaqi which was held to discuss a protocol between NHRC and the Supreme Council of Human Rights in Libya.
He said that Libya should implement its regulations in conformity with the Paris Human Rights Principles and added that Qatar would assist the Libyan authorities in this.
He used the opportunity to review NHRC’s activities in the country and beyond. He said the committee was already the vice-president of the Asian Network and would be appointed president of the network in 2013.
Regionally, Dr al Marri said that the NHRC actively participates in the annual meetings of the Arab National Institutions for Human Rights.
He said in the 7th annual meeting in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott, a unanimous agreement was reached concerning the Qatar’s proposal to establish an Arab Institutions Network for Human Rights.
