Programme on HIV/AIDS
(UNAIDS) Michel Sidibe
said on Tuesday that unity
among partners in the fight
against AIDS has become
imperative as the world has
reached a critical point in
the spread of the disease.
In a speech delivered on
his behalf by Hind Khatib,
regional director of
UNAIDS at the ´Qatar
Symposium on: Family, the
MDGs and AIDS in the
Middle East´, Sidibe reiterated
that one of the UN
Millennium Development
Goals was to reduce the
number of HIV/AIDS cases
by half in 2015.
He said that the Middle
East has about 460,000
HIV infected cases with a
low prevalence rate of 0.1
