Party took over, China had
been mired in civil wars
and dismembered by foreign
aggressions; its people had suffered
widespread famine; average lifeexpectancy
was a mere 41 years.
Today, it is the second largest economy
in the world, a great power with global
influence, and its people live in
increasing prosperity; average life
expectancy has reached 74 years.
But the assessment has to go deeper
than that, for reasons none other than
the apparent discomfort, if not outright
disapproval, Western political

to open on Friday | PARCO Mall, the first eco
friendly shopping mall in the
country, will open at
Mamoura area on Friday.
The opening will come with
a week-long festival of games,
fashion show for children,
magic show, puppet show
and painting competition for
children.
Abdul Rahman al Ansari, a
prominent businessman, will
inaugurate the mall.
Speaking at a press conference,
Moncy Thomas, general
manager of the mall, said,
"Parco Mall is the first green
mall in Doha with its unique

| | 58 children benefit from QPSF summer programme | SUMMER Activities organised by the
Qatar Police Sports Federation (QPSF)
for Ministry of Interior (MoI) officers´
children are continuing with various
recreational, cultural and sports activities.
The programme will end on July 28.
Children between eight and 12 years of
age are participating in the activities.
As part of the programme, 58 children
visited Sports Excellence Academy at
Hamad Sports Complex in Aspire Zone.
They practised swimming and some
water games under the supervision of
eight trainers. They also visited Al Sadd
Sports Club and played several games
such as tennis, chess and play station.

TWENTY-five high school
students have successfully
completed summer programme
titled, ´Northwestern
Connect: Journey,´ recently.
The programme by the
Northwestern University in
Qatar (NU-Q) was held for
two weeks. It gave students
an insight into full-time university
study and a brief introduction
into the curriculum at
the NU-Q, spending a week
studying journalism and
communication.
The students learnt about
the theory and ethics of journalism
and wrote a story
about a member of the Qatar
community. The participants
chose a subject, interviewed
them, and then produced
both a written and video piece
