VCUQ ‘Senior Showcase’ today

DOHA VIRGINIA Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQ) will present ‘Senior Showcase’, a display of the talent of graduating design students at the Saffron Hall of the university on May 1. The event is open to the public.
It is aimed at giving potential employers and visitors a chance to see the final thesis and other research projects of fashion, graphic and interior design students.
Potential employers in the country and the region will have chance to meet Qatari graduating designers who will be present their final design portfolios and also learn about how design can help their business.
The students’ work will be on display at the Saffron Hall till August 20.
Senior Showcase will be held in conjunction with the Senior Exhibition that will also run at VCUQ’s Gallery till August 20.
The exhibition will showcase the final thesis projects and a selection of the best work of VCUQ senior students from the fashion, interior and graphic design departments to highlight their creativity and innovation.
The range of media used by students includes illustration, photography, typography and publication.
Gallery Director at VCUQatar, Jochen Sokoly said, “This year, the Gallery has worked in tandem with the VCUQ Career Development Committee to create a Senior Showcase of the best work of graduating seniors.
The works on display comprise couture fashion, furniture, book projects, graphics and interior designs that reflect the creativity and ingenuity of our students.
We are very proud of them and wish them all success in their future endeavours.” Director of Design Entrepreneurship and Industry Affiliations, Matt Woolman said, “We are proud to feature the entire graduating class of 2011, comprising 49 students from all three majors - fashion design, graphic design and interior design - for the first time in a single exhibition.
It is truly a showcase of the rich and diverse talent that is emerging from VCUQ this year,”
