| | | | Arabs´ Defining Moment |
ONCE
I had lunch with Samuel Huntington at the Harvard Faculty Club.
I was eager to talk to him because he had used my 1991 book,
La Revanche de Dieu ("The Revenge of God"), in his
famous article and subsequent volume, The Clash of Civilisations.
I had argued that the emergence of religious political movements
from the 1970s onward had comparable roots in Islam, Judaism...

| | | | Error-prone India throws match again |
INDIA´S
defeat at the hands of South Africa in the Group B match on
Saturday clearly shows that the Indian team has failed to learn
lessons from its tiedmatch against England. To the detriment
of its prospects, Indian players repeated the mistakes they
had made during the match against England. Firstly, the middle-order

| | IN SEARCH OF
AN ADULT VOICE |
AVRIL
LAVIGNE Goodbye Lullaby When you have
the voice of a perpetual teenager, how
do you grow up? That´s the question
Avril Lavigne, 26, started grappling
with soon after she made her 2002 debut
album, Let Go, back when she actually
was a teenager. Her chirpy, nasal voice
was ideal for the adolescent whine and
bratty revenge of songs like Complicated
and Sk8ter Boi on Let Go, which has
sold more than six million copies in
the United States. She turned glumly
introspective on her second album, Under
My Skin, then reversed into peppy punk-pop
on her 2007 Best Damn Thing, Now, on
Goodbye Lullaby, she´s trying to be
a little more expansive... |

at Lakme Fashion Show |
ACTRESS
Geeta Basra, who was recently in the
news for her alleged relationship with
Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh,
enjoyed walking the ramp at the Lakme
Fashion Week (LFW) as the showstopper
for designer duo Parvesh and Jai. "It
was a fantastic experience walking the
ramp for them. The garment was so nice
and light that I really loved sporting
it. You feel nervous when you are on
the ramp and worry about malfunctioning
or tripping off, but thankfully all
went well," Basra told reporters after
the show. She walked the ramp in a maroon
lehenga and green choli. Geeta made
her Bollywood debut with Dil Diya Hai
(2006) and also featured in... |
