Over 400 take part in no-smoking campaign
With an aim to promote awareness of the ill effects of smoking, the Ministry of Health supported the no-smoking campaign at Salam Tower on Monday. More than 400 people attended the special ´healthy lifestyle and no smoking´ campaign along with health experts, also present at the venue. There were even demonstrations on the ill effects of smoking and how cigarette smoke damages lungs. Cotton was placed in a tube and at the brim of the tube, a cigarette was allowed to burn.
Qatar set to join World Green Building Council
Qatar is set to become the newest member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC), under a new initiative which sees the formation of the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), an independent notfor- profit organisation committed to developing a sustainable property industry for Qatar. The initiative is supported by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (Qatar Foundation). QGBC will encourage construction industry..
Where there´s warmth & food aplenty…
If someone asks me about the most attractive aspect of Qatar´s winter, besides of course the wonderful weather, my immediate answer would be the migratory birds. Terns, geese as well as scores of other migratory birds, which are seen all over the country in the season, offer a real treat to the eyes. There are altogether 255 bird species in Qatar, of which 104 are migratory. They arrive from cold Northern European and Scandinavian countries to Qatar in search of a warm habitat and food.

DSM up 2.8%, Dubai 8%
The Doha Securities Market closed up 2.8 percent at 4866.9 on Monday, after falling in the six previous sessions, shedding 11 percent of its value. Dubai stocks closed sharply higher as their benchmark index jumped 7.9% to 1652.98 at close.
US plans $900 mn aid to Gaza
The United States plans to pledge more than $900 million to help rebuild Gaza, a US official said on Monday. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton plans to make the announcement next week at a Gaza donors conference in Egypt.
