Representatives of the United Nations have lauded Qatar’s national-level measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic, especially its decision to provide free and high-quality medical care to all people in the country without discrimination.
They also commended Qatar’s contributions to fight the virus at the international level, including the shipments of aid and medical supplies to friendly countries and evacuation of people, including United Nations personnel, stranded in epidemic hotspots.
The UN appreciation for Qatar came at a virtual meeting Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister and Supreme Committee for Crisis Management Spokesperson HE Lulwa bint Rashid al Khater had with UN representatives.
Dr. Anna Paulini, Director of the UNESCO Office in the Arab Gulf and Yemen, Hotan Humainpour, Director of the International Labour Organisation’s Office in Qatar, and Abdulsalam Sidahmed, Director of the Documentation Centre of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Qatar, participated in the meeting as UN representatives, besides Anthony MacDonald, UNICEF Qatar Director, Ayat al Dawari, Acting Director of the UNHCR, and Dr Riana Bouhaqa, WHO Representative in the region.
The meeting was also attended by Khalid bin Rashid al Mansoori, Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Development and representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the National Committee to combat coronavirus.
