The Food Security and Environment Committee of Qatar Chamber (QC) has affirmed the importance of providing support to local producers of food products, particularly producers of poultry and vegetables.

During a meeting headed by Qatar Chamber  Board Member Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli on Thursday, the committee stressed the need to overcoming all obstacles facing importers of food products to ensure the flow of commodities in the local market in light with the current crisis of Covid-19.

QC Board Member Mohamed Gawhar Al Mohamed and director of Food Security Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Masoud Jarallah Al Marri attended the meeting in the presence of representatives of food and supply chain companies.

The meeting reviewed the government measures that intended to guarantee the provision of food supplies in the local market.

It also discussed all developments related to the imported food sector from various destinations of origin in light of the high costs of shipping.

It stressed the importance of facilitating procedures for entry and exit of commodities to and from ports and to the industrial area, and from the industrial area to sale outlets.

The meeting also stressed the importance of supporting productive companies operating in the food sectors, especially those that are working in poultry and vegetables, providing support in customs duties on production inputs.

Attendees emphasised the readiness of the private sector to participate in strategic stock plans.

They praised ‘Takatuf Initiative’ launched by the Qatar Chamber, which aims to encourage all its members from the private sector, public shareholding companies and businessmen to participate in supporting the state’s efforts to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.

On his part, Obaidli lauded the government measures in achieving the state’s strategy in food security in cooperation with the private sector, noting that this cooperation helped in combating the current crisis.
