Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamad al Kuwari and Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al Subaie on Wednesday inspected the newly-established Umm Salal quarantine compound.
The facility was set up as part of the precautionary and preventive measures against coronavirus (COVID-19).
The ministers examined the health capabilities and equipment at the expansive compound which has been prepared to receive quarantine patients.
Currently, the Umm Salal quarantine compound has 4,000 beds and will reach 8,000 beds in the next week. It has been fully equipped to ensure comfort, safety and entertainment needs in addition to the necessary health services for quarantined people.
Once fully ready in few weeks, Umm Salal compound comprising 32 buildings will have 18,000 beds.
The ministers toured the compound and inspected the preparedness. They were briefed by the medical team on the compound’s readiness to receive people for quarantine. They also inspected the services available at the compound such as a clinic and other facilities.
The ministers were also briefed on the response plans to receive quarantine cases according to the highest safety and security measures and global health standards.
Kuwari thanked the frontline medical teams for their efforts to combat COVID-19 and to protect society.
She also praised the collaboration within the community to follow the precautionary measures to protect themselves, their families and the wider community.    
The visit comes as part of efforts by MoPH and the HMC to ensure the implementation of preparedness plans to prevent coronavirus.
