The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has set price limits for medical face masks being sold in Qatar. In a price list tweeted by MoCI on Saturday, 38 types of masks are listed.
On Friday, MoCI issued two similar decisions, setting maximum retail prices for fruits and vegetables, and fish and seafood.
The decisions are applicable until March 31, and can be extended further if required. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry had earlier set price limits for various brands of hand sanitisers and antiseptics available in Qatar. The decision comes amid huge demand for such products with the outbreak of coronavirus in Qatar.
The ministry has also prohibited shops and pharmacies in Qatar from selling these products at higher prices.
The ministry recently made supermarkets and other sales outlets in Qatar sign a pledge to undertake four specific sanitation routine as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus. They include measuring the body temperatures of staff members twice a day, providing sanitisers or sterilizers at main entrances, gathering places and toilets, sterilising shopping carts before their use by shoppers and continuously sterilising surfaces such as refrigerator doors and handles.
