The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has made supermarkets and other sales outlets in Qatar sign a pledge to undertake four specific sanitation routine as a precaution against the spread of coronavirus.
They include measuring the body temperatures of staff members twice a day, providing sanitisers or sterilizers at main entrances, gathering places and toilets, sterilising shopping carts before their use by shoppers and continuously sterilising surfaces such as refrigerator doors and handles.
Although a pledge, the ministry termed the routine as “requirements” that are governed by the Article 13 of the Consumer Protection Law No. 8 of 2008.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry called on all sales outlets to comply with these requirements and said it would intensify inspections to ensure compliance.
Any violations would be referred to the competent authorities for appropriate measures in order to protect the rights of consumers, it added.
The Ministry urged the public to report violations through the hotline 16001 or its official social media accounts (@MOCIQatar for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) or its smartphone application MOCIQATAR.
