Qatar-made hand sanitizers were spotted on the shelves on supermarket in Qatar on Tuesday, barely within a day after Qatar assured the public that there wouldn’t be any shortage for products such as cleansing gels, masks and gloves.
Demand for hand sanitisers went up in the past few days and triggered sprees of panic buying after 18 people were tested positive for coronavirus in Qatar.
Social media influencer Hassan al Sai on Tuesday tweeted out photos of a hand santizer brand in a shop in Qatar. The brand, called Bubbly, is made in Qatar, according to Sai.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI), in coordination with various authorities concerned, is working to meet all the needs of the local market.
The ministry said it is carrying out inspections to control prices and prevent monopolistic practices.
In a tweet, the ministry said it is working as per its plan to ensure the flow of goods, food and supplies to the local market without any interruption. The goods are of high quality and they are available at reasonable prices.
Qatar has a strategic stock of food and consumer goods that will meet all the needs of citizens and residents. There is no reason to purchase goods and products in large quantities for storage, the ministry noted
