His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, paid a field visit to the Mesaimeer Interchange Upgrade project and Citizens’ Subdivisions Development projects at south of Doha.  His Excellency the Prime Minister reviewed and was briefed on the progress of works in both projects.
On this occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior stressed that the citizens' subdivisions are the top priority of the government under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, as HH the Amir has clarified in the recent speech before the Shura Council.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior urged for speedy completion of infrastructure projects, especially projects related to the development of citizens' subdivisions, expressing his happiness about the participation of Qatari engineers in the implementation of all projects under Ashghal, and stressing the role of Qatari youth in building their country.
HE Dr Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, President of the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’clarified that the Ashghal strives to complete the works of Mesaimeer Interchange development project is as per directions from HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The President of Ashghal pointed out that more than 65% of the project are completed including development of Mesaimeer Interchange and parts of roads connected to the interchange such as Rawdat Al Khail Street, Industrial Area Road, E Ring Road and Doha Expressway, comprising a total of 6.1km roadworks. 
The President of Ashghal further recalledthat the first tunnel at Mesaimeer interchange was opened to traffic in October 2019, six months prior to the schedule, and other parts will be opened soon, and the project is scheduled to be completed by next year, 2020.
HE the President of Ashghal pointed out that Ashghal is committed to its integrated plan to serve the citizens' subdivisions as a top priority. Works are ongoing on several vital areas such as Al WukairSouth, Al Ebb, Leabaib, Al Kharaitiyat, West Muaither and some other areas to provide servicesto more than 16,500 residential subdivisions. Ashghal is also working tendering similar projects to serve 12 areas in the state covering 16900 subdivisions. 
On his part, Eng. Bader Darwish, Manager of Highway Projects Department at Ashghal said that the Mesaimeer Interchange of the E Ring Road project directly connects with Al-Thumama Stadium and facilitates ease of access to the Al Janoub Stadium.He clarified that worksare progressing to complete theinterchange before kickoff of the much-awaited World Cup matches in a couple of years.
He further added thatthe new interchange on completion in 2020 would significantly improve traffic and save more than 70% of travel time.
On his part, Eng. Saud Al-Tamimi, Manager of Road Projects Department at Ashghal said that Ashghal is taking over the development of new and existing citizens' residential subdivisions as a top priority, and thus works are ongoing for tender of projects to serve 12 areas in the state covering 16900 subdivisions including Al Wajbah East, Duhail, Umm Lekhba, Rawdat Al Jahhaniya, Semaisma and JeryanNajima among others. 
Features of the Interchange 
The new three-level interchange is the first of its kind in Qatar and it includes nine tunnels to provide free flow traffic. The 6.1 km long interchange consists of three to four lanes in each direction to accommodate about 20,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.
The interchange also contains two major bridges. One of them connects Rawdat Al Khail Street and Industrial Area Road in both directions,and the other one connecting E-Ring Road with the southern part of Doha Expressway in one direction,ensuring a smooth flow of traffic in all directions.
The interchange also includes pedestrian and bicycle lanes along 23km with three pedestrian bridges.
Hexagonal Interchange 
The Mesaimeer Interchange is the first of its kind in Qatar connecting six main roads, namely E-Ring Road, Doha Expressway, southern part of Doha Expressway, Sabah Al Ahmed Corridor, Industrial Area Road and Rawdat Al Khail Street.
The interchange also provides vital traffic link between the south, central and north of the country. It links traffic from the south through southern part of Doha Expressway, main carriageway of Doha Expressway and North Road.
It also links traffic between the industrial area and central Doha through Rawdat Al Khail Street intersectingD-Ring road, C-Ring road and B-Ring road, as well as it connects neighborhoods of Nuaija, Al Thumama, Abu Hamour, Al Mamoura and Mesaimeer, besides providingeaseof access to Al Wakra, Al Wukair and Industrial Area.
The road is located in a busy area that accommodates many vital facilities including Al Thumama Stadium, one of the World Cup venue, where three pedestrian bridgesare included in the project to ease people’saccess to Al Thumama Stadium.
The interchange also serves many important educational, health and commercial facilities such as Medical Commission, Meteorological Department, many schools, health centers and commercial entities.
The interchange also includes a sophisticated intelligent transport system where surveillance cameras and vehicle number monitors will be installed alongwith an emergency traffic system to ensure better traffic control in Qatar.
Integral to Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor 
The Mesaimeer Interchange integrates with Sabah AlAhmad Corridor linking Al-Wattiyyat Interchange, which is a strategic link between the southern part of Doha Expressway and its main carriageway. This link provides a free flow traffic between the north and south of the country through Doha city. The project is one of the vital interchanges in the country as it consists of two levels comprising three bridges and four underpasses for easy access of vehicles to the neighborhoods of Al Thumama, Mesaimeer, Abu Hamour, Nuaija, Al Wakra and Al Wukair. The interchange is also important in the provision of free flow traffic for commuters from these areas to Hamad International Airport, to southern areas, Doha city and northern areas of Qatar.

Roads and Infrastructure Projects for Citizens' Subdivisions 
Ashghal continues its works in ten residential areas to develop roads and infrastructure for citizens' residential subdivisions coveringAl Shamal City, AlWukair South, Al Ebb, Leabaib, Al Froosh, Al Kharaitiyat, West Muaither, Al Nasiriyah North, RawdatEqdaim and Izghawa and other vital areas of the state to serve more than 16,500 residential subdivisions. The project includesprovision of roads, drainage network, rainwater drainage network, street lighting, intelligent transportation system, street planning and other works that improve quality of life of the citizens.
Ashghal is also on the verge of launching similar projects to serve 12 regions in the state coveringMebaireek, East Al Wajbah, Duhail, Umm Lekhba, Rawdat Al Jahhaniya, Semaisma and JeryanNajima and others to serve more than 16,900 subdivisions in these areas and the projects are in the stage of tendering and awarding.
It worth to mention that Ashghal has already completed projects for road and infrastructure services in 11 residential areas serving more than 10,000 subdivisions coveringAlMashaf West, New Slata, Al AziziyaEast, Al Wukair North, Al Sailiya, Rawdat Al Hamama and Bani Hajer where projects were executed during 2012 - 2018.
The project at Al Wukair South, one of the new citizens' subdivisions, is supposed to serve more than 4,500 residential plots and Ashghal has already provided road and drainage services to more than 2,000 of them. The project aims to provide infrastructure for Al Wukair area through construction of major drainage networks along 166 km, a rainwater drainage network and 310 km long groundwater drainage network.  The road works include internal and external roads network with a total length of 172 km, with 27 intersections linking Al Wukair South neighborhoodwith main roads and facilitating transport between Doha, Al Wukair and Al Wakra.
The project also includes provision of safe entries to all residential and commercial facilities to be built in the area. This includes installingstreetlight poles and signboards to enhance traffic safety. The project started in April 2018 has already covered around 56% of works and is planned for completion in the third quarter of 2020.
