The Arabian Gulf Cup was established in 1970 by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation. This will be the fourth time Qatar has hosted the tournament, having previously hosted the 1976, 1992 and 2004 editions. Qatar has taken home the title on three occasions (1992, 2004 and 2014). Kuwait is the most successful team in tournament history, winning ten titles out of 23.

Qatar Airways was recently named ‘Airline of the Year’ for the fifth time by the 2019 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. It was also named ‘World’s Best Business Class’, ‘Best Business Class Seat’, and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’.
